Hair Research

Research into Hairstyles

In our short film, our main female character is getting ready to go on a date.

We will want to make this very obvious to the audience and using hairstyles is one of the ways we could do this.

By typing 'Date hairstyles for long hair' into Google images, we could get a rough idea on common hairstyles people use to go out on a date.

Here is what came up on the first try:

We then used different colours to spot any common patterns in these styles:

Red = updo
Purple = curled hair
Blue = straightened hair

Pink = hair accessory used

Most of the hairstyles shown seemed to be an updo of some sort. There was a fairly even split between hair that had been straightened and hair that had been curled. Very few hairstyles used extra hair accessories but when they were used they were mainly big bows of some sort.

By doing this, we can take inspiration from some of these hairstyles which are associated with going on a date so that it is really clear to our audience that is where she is going.

Also looking at websites such as Latest Hairstyles and Cosmopolitan came up with some similar ideas. The common theme seemed to be putting in extra effort and changing your look to something a little different (e.g. people who had straight hair curled it and the people with wavy hair straightened it). These websites are also useful because each style came with advice on how to achieve it.

After discussing it with the group, we have decided to try one of the updos and straighten Megan's hair to create this effect.
