Actors and Characters - Sam McLeish

The Actors and their Characters

Megan Webb

Meg is an A Level Theatre Studies student who has been selected to play the unnamed female lead. The female lead would be presented to the audience as the character who would be presented as getting ready to go on a date with the male characters that she is cross cut with during the montage sequence. However, this is later disproven in the sequence by the fact that she kisses the girlfriend and holds her hand.

Matthew Holt

Matt is a student at our college is also interested in being in our sequence. He would play the role of the only male character in the sequence. This role would be important for the sequence as it is his character that the audience assumes that the two are in a heteronormative relationship.

Emma Brades

Em's character would be the less important of the three characters as she would be the surprise girlfriend towards the end of the sequence.

As you've probably noticed, none of the above characters have names and they are referred to as their titles. When it comes to the sequence, basic exposition being withheld such as this is useful as it allows for enigma when referring to Barthes' Hermeneutic Enigma code. Also, the characters above create a binary opposition (under Claude Lévi-Strauss) between themselves, when the audience sees a straight character and two gay characters.

These character ideas are not final at this stage and are subject to change.
